Hilti Diamond Core Drill Adapter Guide: How to Match Your Drill and Core Bit

Hilti Diamond Core Drill Adapter Guide: How to Match Your Drill and Core Bit

Your Hilti core drill works. Your diamond core bit works. But the two won't connect.

This is a common problem when contractors use Hilti drilling equipment with diamond core bits from different manufacturers. You don't necessarily need a new machine or a new set of core bits. In many cases, the missing link is the right Hilti core drill adapter.

The key is simple: match both ends of the connection.

Hilti machines use different chuck systems, including DD-BL, DD-BU, and DD-BI. Diamond core bits, meanwhile, can use threaded connections such as 1-1/4" and 1/2" BSP.

So don't start by searching for a generic "1-1/4 adapter." Start with the connection on your Hilti machine.

Start With the Machine, Not the Core Bit

Turn off the machine and inspect the chuck where the core bit attaches.

First, identify your Hilti model and the physical chuck connection. Then check the threaded connection on the back of your diamond core bit.

The selection process is straightforward:

Hilti Chuck → DIASHARK Adapter → Core Bit Connection

The machine model narrows down the options. The physical chuck and core-bit connection confirm the match.

DIASHARK Hilti Adapter Quick-Match Guide

Adapter Hilti Machines Machine Connection Core Bit Connection Total Length
DD200 Converting Adapter DD200 DD200 connection DD200 conversion ~130 mm
DD-BU Adapter DD750, DD160, DD250, DD400 DD-BU 1-1/4" / 1/2" BSP configuration ~136 mm
DD-BL to DD-BS Adapter DD160E, DD200, DD250E, DD350 DD-BL 1-1/4"-7 / 1/2" BSP configuration ~115 mm
DD-BI Adapter DD100, DD110-W, DD120, DD130, DD150-U DD-BI 1-1/4" UNC male / 1/2" BSP female —

Use the table to narrow down the adapter, then verify the actual connection on your machine and core bit before ordering.

1. Hilti DD200 Converting Adapter

The DD200 converting adapter is made for Hilti DD200 drilling systems.

With a total length of approximately 130 mm, it provides the required conversion between the DD200 connection and the compatible diamond core drilling setup.

Machine: Hilti DD200

Machine Side: DD200 connection

Adapter Length: ~130 mm

Primary Use: DD200 connection conversion

If you already have a DD200 and compatible diamond core tooling, this adapter can help you keep the existing setup instead of replacing components simply because the connections are different.

2. Hilti DD-BU to 1-1/4" / 1/2" BSP Adapter

The DD-BU adapter is designed for Hilti core drilling machines including:

  • DD750

  • DD160

  • DD250

  • DD400

The machine side connects to the DD-BU system, while the opposite side provides a threaded connection for compatible diamond core bits.

Machine Side: DD-BU

Compatible Models: DD750, DD160, DD250, DD400

Bit Side: 1-1/4" / 1/2" BSP configuration

Adapter Length: ~136 mm

This adapter is useful when your Hilti machine uses a DD-BU connection but your existing core bits use standard threaded connections.

Before ordering, check the complete thread specification of the core bit. A 1-1/4" diameter alone does not tell you everything you need to know.

3. Hilti DD-BL to DD-BS / 1-1/4"-7 Adapter

If your Hilti machine uses a DD-BL chuck, check the DD-BL to DD-BS adapter.

This adapter is listed for:

  • Hilti DD160E

  • Hilti DD200

  • Hilti DD250E

  • Hilti DD350

It converts the DD-BL machine connection to a threaded connection for compatible diamond core bits.

Machine Side: DD-BL

Compatible Models: DD160E, DD200, DD250E, DD350

Bit Side: 1-1/4"-7 / 1/2" BSP configuration

Adapter Length: ~115 mm

This setup is useful when you want to run standard threaded diamond core bits on a Hilti machine with a DD-BL chuck.

4. Hilti DD-BI to Threaded Core Bit Adapter

The DD-BI adapter covers another group of Hilti core drilling machines:

  • DD100

  • DD110-W

  • DD120

  • DD130

  • DD150-U

Its configuration is:

1-1/4" UNC male thread + 1/2" BSP female thread

This provides a threaded connection for compatible standard diamond core bits.

Machine Side: DD-BI

Compatible Models: DD100, DD110-W, DD120, DD130, DD150-U

Bit Side: 1-1/4" UNC male / 1/2" BSP female

Pay close attention to the thread standard and connection gender. Knowing that a bit is "1-1/4 inch" is not enough. You also need to know whether the connection is male or female and which thread specification it uses.

1-1/4" Thread? Check the Full Specification

This is where many adapter orders go wrong.

A contractor measures the diameter of a core bit and says:

"It's 1-1/4 inch."

That only gives you part of the information.

Before ordering an adapter, check:

  • Thread diameter

  • Thread pitch and standard

  • Male or female connection

  • Machine-side chuck

  • Core bit manufacturer or part number, if available

For example, 1-1/4"-7 and 1-1/4" UNC may appear under different naming conventions in product listings. Don't assume that every 1-1/4" threaded connection is interchangeable.

The same applies to 1/2" BSP. Check the actual specification rather than relying only on the measured diameter.

Jobsite Rule

If the adapter does not thread smoothly by hand, stop.

Do not use the drill motor, hammer, or a wrench to force mismatched threads together. A forced connection can damage the threads and create excessive runout or vibration during drilling.

The 30-Second Hilti Adapter Check

Before placing your order, work through these three steps.

1. Find the Hilti Model

Check the nameplate on the machine.

For example:

  • DD100 / DD110-W / DD120 / DD130 / DD150-U → check the DD-BI adapter

  • DD750 / DD160 / DD250 / DD400 → check the DD-BU adapter

  • DD160E / DD200 / DD250E / DD350 → check the DD-BL adapter

  • DD200 → also check the dedicated DD200 converting adapter where applicable

These model groups help narrow down the options, but the physical chuck is still the final check.

2. Inspect the Chuck

Look directly at the connection on the machine.

If you're not sure whether it is DD-BL, DD-BU, DD-BI, or another configuration, take a clear photo of the chuck.

A photo is often more useful than trying to describe the connection.

3. Inspect the Core Bit

Look at the back of the diamond core bit.

Check whether it has:

  • 1-1/4" threaded connection

  • 1/2" BSP connection

  • Another threaded connection

  • A proprietary or quick-connect connection

Also check whether the thread is male or female.

Now match the two sides:

Machine connection → Adapter → Core bit connection

That's the whole selection process.

Why Use a Hilti Core Drill Adapter?

Replacing a complete set of diamond core bits every time you change drilling equipment can get expensive, especially when you already have multiple diameters in your toolbox.

A properly matched adapter allows compatible threaded core bits to be used with a different machine connection.

This is particularly useful for contractors, rental fleets, and workshops that work with more than one drilling system.

DIASHARK adapters are made from solid steel for strength and rigidity, providing a solid mechanical connection between the machine and compatible core bit.

An adapter is not a solution for mismatched threads. It is a mechanical bridge between two specific connection systems.

Still Not Sure Which Hilti Adapter You Need?

Don't guess and risk ordering the wrong adapter.

Send DIASHARK:

  1. Your Hilti drill model

  2. A clear photo of the machine chuck

  3. A clear photo of the core bit connection

  4. The core bit manufacturer or part number, if available

We'll check the machine-side connection and bit-side thread together and help identify the matching adapter.

The Simple Rule

Match the machine connection.
Match the core bit thread.
Then choose the adapter.

That's the simplest way to get the right Hilti diamond core drill adapter the first time.
